Bold statement I know, and I’m not trying to be an arrogant know-it-all, but there only 2 reasons why your body won’t do what it is designed and created to do and why you would get sick. Disease is nothing more than your body not functioning the way God created it to function. We’ve been deceived in our country into thinking that disease and sickness just happens to some people and you need to attack the disease without actually addressing the host (YOU!). So what are the 2 causes of all sickness and disease??
Toxicity is the one that is easier to see the effects of, even when we’re not necessarily aware that we are becoming toxic in the moment. There are so many ways that we come into contact with toxins, but look at the top 10 toxins we fight against here. Suffice to say that there really isn’t a way possible to totally get away from every toxin out there (unless you move off to the back hills of Costa Rica or Kuai and live in a grass hut…hmm not a bad idea!!). The most common way we become toxic is by 1. the food we eat, 2. The water we drink, 3. The air we breathe. The entire focus and goal of this blog is to educate you on healthy alternatives to the toxic laden foods that are out there so that you can do the best you can for your family. Most of the food we are exposed to today: fast food (especially), packaged foods, pasteurized milk/juices, candy, non-organic coffee….I could go on and on and on but we don’t need to because all of these foods are FULL of added chemicals and toxins. These toxins have to go somewhere so part of them are expelled from the body via the urine and the bowels. But the remaining toxins are filtered by the liver and are stored in the body’s tissues like the muscle and mainly the fat cells.
So what can you do about this?? The best you can. We’re going through in our Transitioning to Family Wellness series alternatives for you and introducing an organic lifestyle for your family. This will help you avoid an entire host of toxins you would ordinarily become exposed to. For the toxins that you can’t avoid, we recommend doing some kind of a Detoxification Cleanse every few months. Cindy and I do the 21 Day Purification Program from Standard Process every 4 months to help purge our bodies of the toxins we’ve stored over that period of time. There are other great ones out there, but this is the one we’ve seen the best changes on and like the product the best. But the goal isn’t to be afraid of everything you eat, but to be conscious of what you’re putting in your body and knowing that there’s a point of which you need to do a good housecleaning. Not doing a cleanse every few months is like never brushing your teeth, or like trashing your house and leaving food and everything all over the place and never picking it up!! GROSS! But the funny thing is, we think that’s disgusting because we can actually see it. The only reason we don’t think our bodies are just as gross on the inside is just that, it is on the inside and we can’t see it.
So what if you’re the squeekiest, cleanest person you know but you’re still getting sick all the time?? What gives?? Well, removing toxins is only half the battle, the other battle is to replenish Deficiencies in the body. The hard thing about Deficiencies is that you really don’t know what you’re deficient in unless you test. Being deficient in a mineral or nutrient you need for optimal health is just as detrimental on the body and it’s function as being toxic with something that’s interfering with function from the outside in.
So how the heck do we in the land of overabundance become deficient in anything?!? Sounds crazy right? Not really… There are many Americans who suffer health problems due to being deficient in important nutrients that effect the function of their body. Go here to see a list of the Top 10 deficiencies. I don’t really agree with how they say to correct all of them so I’ll go back through them in a later post and help you with that myself, but the list is interesting. What I like about that page is that at the very top of the page it says that the majority of the reason that we in America have deficiencies is because of an in-adequate dietary intake of nutrients. In other words..JUNKY DIET!! But what they don’t add in is that this is true for two different reasons. The junky diet 1. Doesn’t provide the nutrients in the first place (easy to see), but 2. Some of the products in a “junky diet” actually pull out the good things in our body and lead to more of a deficiency than we already had. Take for example partially hydrogenated oils. When we ingest these fake fats, they compete in our body for the receptors for the healing, good fats like your Omega-3 fats and won’t allow you to absorb them. Sodas contain phosporic acid in them which needs calcium to neutralize it so it takes the calcium out of your bones in order to do that!! So this is really a huge issue in the United States. Alot of this can be fixed with diet, but alot of it also recquires good supplementation to correct. We’ll go over that later.
What I want you to do is to honestly look at your diet and the diet of your kids and ask yourself if either of these is happening. Are your kids getting toxins from the food they are eating? Or are they getting a second rate diet that is deficient in the important nutrients they need for optimal function?
